Join me in preserving and protecting Grand Canyon!

Hi Family and Friends!

I hope this invitation finds everyone healthy and doing well.

As you well know I have been an avid motorcyclist for years dating back to when my father signed himself, my brother and I up for motorcycle riding class in 1971, of which we all passed. At the time my father was considering purchasing used HD’s motorcycles from the Army base in Huntsville AL, which did not occur.

In 1973 out of high school, I joined the service and got stationed in San Diego, CA, where I purchased my first motorcycle, a 1973 Yamaha 250 Enduro. I honed my off-road skills, riding the sand dunes outside of Mission Bay. In 1974, I received orders to Iceland, so I loaded up the Yamaha 250 in San Diego, CA and rode it to Huntsville, AL where my parents lived so I could store the bike.

Fast forward 50 years. I have been accepted to participate in the 2024 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ (hokaheychallenge.com) which begins 8/4/24 in Daytona Beach, FL and ends in Homer, AK.

Since being accepted to participate in the 10,000-mile HHMC, the charity I will be supporting by raising awareness for and funding through your generous donations is Grand Canyon Conservancy (GCC), Mission, Vision, and Purpose (grandcanyon.org). I have visited the Grand Canyon numerous times both as a child and adult and still remember to this day the markings on the rocks left by Native Americans many years ago. Many Indigenous people still call the canyon home and live in and around the surrounding area.

GCC accepts the responsibility of stewarding these places and pledges to honor and respect these lands, their cultural history, and the 11 nations that are still here: The Havasupai Tribe, The Hopi Tribe, The Hualapai Tribe, The Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians, The Las Vegas Band of Paiute Indians, The Moapa Band of Paiute Indians, Navajo Nation, The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, The Pueblo of Zuni and the Yavapai-Apache Nation.

The Grand Canyon is one of the oldest National Parks in the Nation. Grand Canyon National Park’s great chasm, carved over millennia, is one of the major natural wonders of the world. With its awe-inspiring views, turbulent Colorado River, numerous hiking trails, and recreational opportunities, the park is visited by more than 5 million tourists each year. An extensive system of tributary canyons, the National Park covers more than 1,900 square miles. The canyon itself is 277 river miles long, one mile deep, and its width varies from 10 to 18 miles.

Grand Canyon Conservancy is the official nonprofit partner of Grand Canyon National Park, and your donations will go towards various projects at the canyon like trail maintenance, educational programs, protection of wildlife and native species, and preserving rich cultural heritage.

Thank you in advance for your support in raising awareness and funding for one of the seven natural wonders of the world, “The Grand Canyon!”
